Most research projects treat qualitative and quantitative as separate phases. You run focus groups in month one to generate hypotheses, then run a survey in month three to test them. The hand-off between the two is almost always lossy. Insights get flattened into closed ended questions, nuance disappears, and by the time the quantitative data comes back you have forgotten half of what the qualitative phase actually taught you. How to combine synthetic qualitative and quantitative research in one study
When you run an A/B test against synthetic respondents, something different happens. You can ask a persona to rate Concept A and Concept B, and in the same session you can ask that persona to explain the rating in their own words, walk you through what almost changed their mind, describe which specific elements landed and which did not, and tell you what a hybrid of the two would look like. You get quantitative structure and qualitative depth from the same respondent in the same moment, which is something you almost never get from real human research at scale. Then you can re-field a modified concept against the same persona set and watch the scores move, with the persona explaining what changed their mind.

How synthetic A/B testing works with a CPG package design example
A consumer packaged goods company wants to test four package redesigns. In a traditional research program they would pick two for focus groups, field a monadic quantitative test on the survivors, and ship whichever won. Six weeks and $80,000 later they have a decision with no understanding of why.
With combined synthetic research they build personas representing their four core buyer segments, field all four designs quantitatively across each persona set, and get both purchase intent scores and open ended reactions from every combination. They discover that Design C wins overall but loses badly among their highest value segment because of a specific colour choice.
